Priyanka: A medley of words, cultures and optimism

Finding joy in creating content and sharing with the world, Priyanka’s love for reading led her to become a content writer. She studied English Literature and later followed on the unplanned path to freelancing. Acknowledging the freedom that freelancing offers, she loves to work with an expansive range of clientele. Tell us about yourself? Where are you from? About your family, parents? How was your childhood?

I have lived the majority of my growing up years in Ahmedabad. I, later on, moved to the US and lived there for a few years. It’s been 4 years now since I’ve moved back with my family to India and currently have settled in Vadodara, Gujarat. 

There were also certain years which I spent in Nashik, MH. I have loved living in different towns and states, it teaches you an array of cultures, way of living, meeting new people and of course languages. These experiences have taught me what I am today and I hope to explore the world someday. 

Tell us about your educational background? Why did you choose to study English Literature?

All of my education was in Ahmedabad, GJ. It was the guidance of a dear family friend and professor that led me to choose English Literature. It taught me more about the various genres and authors of works which I hadn’t explored. One of the famous philosophers whose work I till date love reading is Aristotle. This is one of my favourite quotes from Aristotle – “ The energy of the mind is the essence of life.”

Tell us about your journey in the field of content writing? What excites you the most about content writing?

It was the love of reading that delved me into the world of content writing. It’s just an absolute joy to weave the dreams of imagination into words and share them with the world through content.

Why did you opt for freelancing? When did you start freelancing? Did you plan it or how it happened?

It’s been quite some years since I started freelancing. The best things happen unplanned and so was this. I just love the freedom of collaborating with clientele from an expansive range of industries and crafting content that is specifically unique to their own brand.

Talk to us about ‘How to approach the first few clients’? What are your key strategies?

The first is the big O. It is crucial to be Optimistic.

The 4 key strategies I usually follow are: 

• Understanding my target market
• Connecting with potential clients
• Sharing how I can add value to their brand
• Lastly, rigorous & regular follow-ups

How do you deal with isolation and loneliness as a freelancer?

Surprisingly and luckily I have never felt that. I’m blessed to have work and people around me to keep me positive. 

What according to you is the best or worst thing about freelancing?

The best is the freedom of work. You are your own boss. 

I wouldn’t say it is the worst thing but there are some challenging times when you are asked to write for free.

What is the one thing you hate about clients? What can they do to make your life better?

Hate is too harsh a word. I think every individual comes with their own set of requirements and expectations. I like it when clients give a clear idea of what they want. It makes the delivery so much easier.

What is your best work to date? Why do you think it is the best?

Oh! That would be challenging and unfair to my other work. :] Since, everything I write is unique, I just aim to do better, creative and different with each project I take.

What are your mission and vision? How do you want history to look at you?

My mission is to bring forth creativity and value in every undertaking. I envision starting up my own firm and fingers crossed hopefully by the end of 2020.

I would want history to look at how we have creatively redefined the outlook of content and branding.

As you look back, do you feel satisfied with yourself or do you think you missed?

I just feel that there is always scope to do more. And I am always on a lookout of how I can expand my avenues.
