Athletic Ripples, a fluid designed by Rajeev Kumar Dubey, is a project based on interfacing the user and his built environment into a coherent whole. The program has been translated into trajectories of movement. These flow lines generated the formal idea, which is underlined by the interweaving of the various activities. This results in creating a design with an inherent quality of interaction.
The program analysis resulted in the distribution of the various functions on site. Conceptually, these programmatic zones were treated as pebbles dropped in water. It is the inference of the water field, thus creating ripples and giving a guideline for the formal design language of the project. The central pedestrian zone caters to the primary movement on site. This linear zone has been kept exclusively for pedestrians, thereby instilling the feeling of being in a green sports complex. It has been attempted to eliminate the dogma of vehicular congestion related to projects like this. This corridor, being axial in nature, branches into different activities.
The program asks for a stadium that accommodates a cricket pitch, a football field, and an athletic running track. Along with this function, a number of indoor and outdoor sports activities are located on site as required by the brief. A continuous silhouette has been designed for the project. The design proposal seems to be emerging from the landscape and creates the various forms while still maintaining an overall gesture. As a design outlook, it has been taken into account that, being a sports complex, an atmosphere of being nestled in nature is created. The built form does not sit in disjunction with the surroundings but, on the contrary, flows out of the landscape itself.
Piezoelectricity is being looked to be applied to the landscape pavers. The system will harvest the kinetic energy generated by crowds that is effective in areas of heavy foot traffic. Solar cells are proposed for the roofs of the stadiums to harness the abundantly available solar energy. These solar cells would be integrated on the roof of the stadium as a design feature, and only a certain percent of the roof panels will be designed as solar panels. There is a proposed mix of solar panels and pneumatic panels on the roof to maintain the required light intensity inside the stadium.

DDA has developed 15 sports complexes in the capital with state-of-the-art facilities. The popular ones include the Siri Fort sports complex spread over 32 acre and the one at Commonwealth Games Village, which covers over 21 acre.The Dwarka complex will have a football stadium with a 7,000 seating capacity and a practice field with facilities of FIFA-compliance standards. It will include both indoor and outdoor sports facilities to cater to the needs of professionals, training programmes, sports bodies and amateur sports, local communities and private companies, a DDA official said.
The outdoor sports complex will include an eight-lane athletic track, tennis court, basketball court, children’s play area and a skate park while the indoor facility will have dedicated space for badminton, squash, table tennis and board games. It will also have swimming pools, a shooting range and a fitness centre.

The design of the Bhopal Sports Complex was envisioned to create a multi-venue sports enclave of international standards and facilities in Bhopal. The sports complex contains a hockey stadium, an athletics stadium with a 400-meter running track and football ground, an indoor sports centre, a common cafeteria, a cricket stadium, an archery range, tennis courts, and other outdoor and indoor games. The masterplan is designed to accommodate parking for 1000 cars and 2500 two-wheelers and is planned in a way to get connected with the public transport routes through 25 buses. With world-class modern infrastructure and stadiums that can compete on a global platform, the complex also hosts a set of buildings that are iconic in their structure and architecture. The site is well connected to Tatya Tope Stadium, Madhya Pradesh State Equestrian Academy, Madhya Pradesh State Shooting Academy, Aish Bagh Stadium, SAI Athletic Stadium, and BHEL Sports Complex, making it an integrated place for pursuing sports for state citizens while offering state-of-the art international-standard sports infrastructure.
