Introduce yourself to us? Where are you from? About your family, parents? How was your childhood?

I am Simrin kapoor, a Freelance Content Writer, Book Reviewer, and Social Media Marketing Coach. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Law from IILM University, Gurgaon. I was born and brought up in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

My childhood was very special to me as I was born in such a beautiful place which is close to my heart and nature that made a memorable journey.

Post studying law, why did you choose the field of content writing? Speak to us about your passion for writing?

I started this in 2019, where I accidently got an idea of an increase in the number of content writers in the market. Content Writing and Book Reading are very close to my heart. There are few reasons for the same. Being a student, you always have a dream to do something different and unique. I love to dream; dreams make me happier as there needs to be goals in life in order to keep yourself engaged in some work.

I am passionate about writing because someone has said, “The whole world needs Pen and Paper, as they are the medium to speak unspoken words”. So, writing is something which can give you an identity and recognition. It can make you feel Satisfied, Contented, and Focused. Writing has inculcated the 3 ‘Cs’ – Compassion – Care – Curiosity. These 3 ‘Cs’ have given me the courage to enlighten the individuals who need a ray of hope to live and fulfill their dreams. I would like to say that writing enables you to spread positive, motivational and valuable content.

Why did you choose to freelance? When did you begin to freelance? Were you planning it, or how did it happen?

Freelance is a medium by which one can sustain and grow to build an empire of its own. I am always open to new ideas and challenges in life. I really want to make my own name in Women Content Writers from India or in any field per say. I do Book Blogging which is my niche, but now I feel really proud and honored to be associated with the field of so many other freelancers.

I Started in 2019 with the vision and mission to do something out of the box.

How did you approach the first few clients? Give key suggestions to the new freelancers.

In the beginning, I tried to get work from some of the Project Managers who would manage the Projects Related to Content Writing and Book Reviews. Then I learnt and analyzed my skills and caliber, and now I am worth contributing more to this field. I also decided to do a Course “Content in Dollars” which is mentored by Krati Agarwal which helped me to know more about Content Creation.

I would like to suggest that:

  • KNOW YOUR PASSION – this is your chance to grow and to know what you are passionate about in freelancing. As in today’s trend there are thousands of ways to sell your services but without knowing your passion you will not be able to go long way.
  • TRY NEW IDEAS – You all should try, implement and experiment new ideas and techniques. Keep yourself Updated and offer something unique.
  • KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER – You should know your customer which is the main key element in freelancing. Knowing your customer includes things like if you stay in a small place then know how much the clients would be able to offer you etc. It is critical to know which market you should target in a freelancing business.
  • MAINTAIN PROFESSIONAL ETHICS – Professional Ethics is something which is an added advantage. When someone works with ethics it will always be helpful to build a long-lasting relationship as an individual.
  • HAVE A PROPER CHANNEL TO SERVE YOUR CLIENTS – Yes, you should be aware of a proper channel to serve your clients. The channel should be legal, authentic and trustworthy. Ensure to have a proper payment gateway for the international clients to be able to rely on your work.

As a freelancer, speak about having integrity as an essential characteristic? Tell our readers about being original, giving credits and having a USP with your work and services offered.

Having integrity is really important as it is the value of your worth in this industry. I as an individual try my best to know my USP by doing a market survey. I try to check what my competitors are offering in the field of Content Writing and what new things I can add to differentiate my services in order to give an extra leverage to the customer.

I know two tricks which would help any freelancer to grow.

  1. Make your services so unique that no one is able to reach your level.
  2. Add Innovation and Your Personal Touch for uniqueness.

I personally do Book Reviews. I have USP that I engage with my fellow bloggers, be respectful and help them to grow. My services are related to one niche and that adds more credibility to my page @reading_gives_value.

Throw some light on the importance of choosing niches and working on personal branding for Freelancers?

When an individual works in a particular niche this brings a lot of sustainability and uniqueness in your profile. As you do the similar kind of work, so you are treated to be more suitable to work for a client who is requiring someone of the same niche.

Personal Branding is important and suitable for all the people who are looking forward to gaining more money and more recognition in this field. Personal Brand should have a name to give its own personal touch.

To create a personal brand, one must need to be focused towards making a larger goal towards their life.

How do you deal with writer’s block? What are the steps that you take to overcome it?

Writer’s Block is the most challenging thing which we face while working on writing projects. I deal with it with a lot of research work and paraphrasing. Typing the content and working for hours to make the perfect one. As perfection is still a myth in Writer’s Block. No one can be perfect as each writer has its own flow of writing.

In brief I would suggest –

  1. Read A lot – When you read a lot then you have a lot of ideas in your mind which would be helpful in some way or the other.
  2. Practice More – “Practice makes a man perfect”, I get time to read and practice as I am an avid book reader so I use to review it.  This adds advantage in my skills and broader’s my approach towards the field as both are inter- related.

How do you use social media to your strength to build an effective network and generate sales leads?

I use social media as a tool to create my own name and goodwill. I invest more in building long-lasting relationships with my online peers, mentors and other followers. I am not of a level to invest in paid marketing as it is not my cup of tea to buy followers and then generate income. I have made my profile on all social media platforms which helps and makes me the best to know more.

What is the one major pro and/or con of freelancing, according to you?

The major advantage is to increase your social circle and have a name and brand of your own.

The major disadvantage is that you have to go through a lot of mental stress and cyber frauds. It also makes you feel emotionally unstable sometimes.

What is the one thing about clients that you dislike? What can they do to improve your work life?

The one thing that I dislike is that they need you but they can’t pay you. To improve our work life, they can make us happy by offering some kind of positive feedback. Offer a freelancer a little extra bonus if you like the work as this would really act as a motivating factor for us to work and stay connected with our work.

What mission and vision do you have? How do you want history to look at you?

My mission is to try, learn and implement everything to help others in this life. I don’t want to earn too much but enough to sustain this life. By this I mean that if my work deserves something better, I will definitely take that but I would never cheat anyone in this profession.

It is too early in life for me to answer this question but I want history to look at me like a “WOMAN WHO ACHIEVED EVERYTHING SHE WANTED FOR THE HAPPINESS OF OTHERS”. I know this is based on no wisdom but it came in my mind as the happiness and wellbeing of others matter to me a lot.

Do you feel content with yourself as you look back or do you think you have missed something?

I am still not content as one should always be hungry to learn more. Neither am I too perfect, so I think I need to work on my skills more in order to reach a level.
